A CONTINUING BIBLIOGRAPHY FOR THE STUDY OF INTERCHURCH DIALOGUES INTRODUCTION by the Director of the Centro Pro U11io11e The present issue of the Bulletin of the Centro Pro Unione is entirely devoted to a continuation of A WORKBOOK OF BI BLIOGRAPHIES FOR THE STUDY· OF INTERCHURCH DIALOGUES, published by the Centro Pro Unione last year. When Fr. James F. Puglisi, S.A., my predecesso1: as director of this center, began his work of collecting bibliographies on the various dialogues, it was in response to requests of students using our library here in Rome, who found the lack of bibliographical references to the dialogues a serious obstacle to study. CONFESSIONS IN DIALOGUE by Ehrenstrom and Gassmann, published by the World Council of Churches, was the pioneer ing work which attempted to provide some guidance to the material, but bibliographical references were still needed. (The previous number of our Bulletin (Fall; 1978) carried an updated survey of the dialogues since 1975). Last year, the Centro Pro Unione published Fr. Puglisi's first, provisional collection of bibliographies, calling it a "workbook" because we were well aware that his single-handed effort needed to be circulated among those in the field for comment and additions before it could be considered authoritative. We have attempted to do that in· the past year, and we are grateful to those who responded with suggestions and comments. This present update of that bibliography includes entries roughly from Easter 1978 to date, with additions which were the result of suggestions made by those to whom we circulated the WORKBOOK. We have not had the space to repeat the listings of each dialogue, and readers should use this Bulletin as a supplement, rather than a replacement, bf the WORKBOOK. At the srhe time, the present CONTINUING BIBLIOGRAPHY is complete in itself -for the period covered. Those receiving this Bulletin who do not have a copy of the WORKBOOK will find an announcement concerning how it may be obtained elsewere in · this issue. We are gratified that the First Forum on Bilateral Conversations, convened last year at the request of the Secretaries of the World Confessional Families by the Commission on Faith and Order of the World Council of Churches, commended both CONFESSIONS IN DIALOGUE and the WORKBOOK "as continuing sources of information for partici pants in the bilateral conversations and for those who study their progress". This effort by the Centro Pro Unione to collect and distribute bibliographies on interchurch dia logues is conducted in close cooperation with the Commission on Faith and Order. We are currently discussing with the Commission the possibility of the publication of the texts of the dialogues at a future date. This Bulletin is distributed, free of charge, to about two thousand ecumenical institutes, centers, publications and selected individuals in an effort to facilitate the study of the dialogues. Any contributions to the project would, of course, be appreciated, and will be acknowledged. Perhaps the most valuable participation consists in the many helpful suggestions and comments offered. Our library is also most grateful to those institutes and publications which have ex changed publications with us, thus helping overcome our limited resources of staff and funding. Another updated bibliography will be published in 1980. Charles Angell, S.A.
