Its purpose is to give space for dialogue, to be a place for study, research and formation in ecumenism: theological, pastoral, social and spiritual. The Bulletin has been pubblished since 1968 and is released in Spring and Fall. As the COVID 19 virus continues to rage in many parts of the world, we all have reason to pause and to take stock of the world in which we live. This special number of the Bulletin – Centro Pro Unione hopefully will raise your spirits and be a sign of hope for all those who will download and read it. In spite of the many closures, the Centro has been able to remain open to its clients, students and professors and all those interested in ecumenical matters. This special number also launches a new project of “e-book” publications that the Centro has undertaken. This first volume (in Italian and English) edited by our associate director Teresa Francesca Rossi, brings the results of the first Module of the program M.A.D. for EcumenismMutual Accountability Desk. This first Module undertook the exploration of how churches are accountable in terms of preaching the Gospel. It involved a project both of study (looking at the methods and contents of preaching) as well as experiences of preaching and the exchange of pulpits here in Rome. The goal of this pilot project was inspired by what Pope Francis spoke about in his approach to ecumenism of going beyond the theological results of the various ecumenical dialogues which have produced much fruit to the experience of each other where we live, in the heart of our churches, in our celebrations and in the proclamation of the Good News of Jesus Christ. The Pope’s idea of getting beyond the technical aspect of the dialogues to the heart of the matter by “walking together, praying together and working together” (camminare insieme, pregare insieme, lavorare insieme). At the same time the World Council of Churches’ General Secretary, Dr. Olav Fyske Tveit raised the point that the Churches need to be accountable to each other on many levels. He felt that this mutuality was necessary if we were to receive and assimilate the results of the theological dialogues. With the program M.A.D. for Ecumenism, the Centro took this challenge seriously and with the guidance of Dr. Rossi launched a program which looked at the question of preaching under the microscope of this mutual exchange of theory and practice in some of the parishes in Rome with the participation of both students and parishioners. A second Module has been launched which is considering baptism as a common bond of all Christians and how it is celebrated, and lived –a sort of baptismal ethos in practice. The first phase had begun but has been interrupted because of the Corona virus pandemic. This has not stopped us from finding virtual ways of going forwards – so stay tuned for the results! The Centro’s lecture series continues with two lectures on line. The first offered by Rabbi Jack Bemporad is entitled God, Science and Religion . The second given by Prof. Giovanni Maria Vian considers Pope Pius X’s contribution to the reform of the church: Pio X. Un papa riformatore. This lecture, live on line, is the 23 rd annual conference in honor of the Founders of the Society of the Atonement: Servant of God, Paul Wattson, sa and Mother Lurana White, sa. In the history of the Congregation Pius X was important since he allowed the Friars and Sisters of the Atonement to enter into full communion with the Church of Rome and maintain their name, habit and mission of prayer for the unity of Christians and service of the poor. We have to postpone the lecture of Prof. Teresa Berger Laudato Si’ and “universal communion”: Re-thinking Liturgy in a Time of Ecological Emergency because of travel bans. We plan to have our Summer Institute, Ecumenical & Interreligious Movements from a Catholic Perspective, from June 21 to July 9, 2021. Please check our website for more information in the new year (www.prounione.it). You will find in this issue the text of the presentation of a new book by our colleague Davide Bracale. Vecchie Memorie. Album di figure e luoghi di Bellegra . This work is a collection of histories, families and persons which have meaning for the town of Bellegra and at the service of the Church. Lastly, you can order materials for the Week of Prayer 2021: Abide in my love and you shall bear much fruit (cf. Jn 15:5-9) and Rimanete nel mio amore: produrrete molto frutto by going to the web. We invite our readers to always check our web site for dates and events as well as the up-dating of our data base on the international theological dialogues and of course our two libraries: pro and dialogo.
